Adult Groups

Women's Groups at Wesley

Wesley United Church has a variety of activities for women.

The Susanna Wesley Friendship Group has between 20-25 active members who meet on the 4th Tuesday afternoon of each month - sometimes for lunch, sometimes for tea and a program, sometimes for coffee and dessert and to pack cosmetic/toiletry bags for Regina's Transition House. This group is growing in size and new members are most welcome.

The former Allan Crewe Unit now meets informally for lunch once a month and the members treasure their friendship.

About two times a year Wesley United Church women hold a  "Women's Night Out."  At this time about 65-70 women meet for a buffet dinner and a speaker.  It is a popular event. The programs and speakers vary considerably and Wesley women greet these evenings with enthusiasm.

There are also Adult Study Groups on Sunday mornings (pre-church) and Monday evenings which women may join, as well as other committees in the church such as Worship Division, Pastoral Care or Christian Education.

We welcome all women with enthusiasm and in friendship.

Wesley Sunday Morning Study Group

The Wesley Sunday Morning Study Group meets at 9 am Sunday morning in the Kitchen Lounge. Our purpose is to explore together questions of theology, biblical history and the significance for our times of Christian communities. These explorations are usually conducted through our reading and talking about recently published books dealing with current issues of biblical meaning, church life and society and religion. Our goal is to seek our own deeper understanding through open, thoughtful, non-critical discussions.

The Study Group welcomes new participants. If you are interested in getting a better sense of what the Study Group does, please feel free to join us any Sunday morning.

Wesley Men’s Club

The Wesley Men’s Club meets on the first Friday of each month (commencing in October) in the kitchen lounge for a time of fellowship. The evening begins around 6:00 with a wonderful home cooked meal (at a bargain price of only $12) hosted by the house of the month.  After supper, a short period of time is devoted to any business items that need discussing and the evening is normally capped off by a guest speaker. For the most part the topics of discussion focus on those of a religious, social or community nature. There is no cost to become a member of the men’s club.  Meetings are open to all men of Wesley and any friends they wish to bring. The meetings or gatherings are set in a very casual environment and by 8:00 the evening has wrapped up.

Aside from the regular meetings, the men’s club puts on the annual “world famous” Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. The Annual Christmas Party, which is open to all members of the Wesley congregation and friends, is always held on the first Friday of December. The men’s club serves the church community in a variety of ways. Over the years the men’s club has played a prominent role in planning and organizing Wesley’s Annual Spring Garage sale. A large portion of the money raised through the pancake supper and garage sale is donated back to the church to help pay for general operating expenses.  Additional money has also been provided for Christian Education in support of youth programming at Wesley.  The men’s club has always made a regular donation to Lumsden Beach Camp and supports other worthy causes as warranted.  In recent years the Men’s Club has purchased a deluxe BBQ, six additional 5-foot tables, and a new storage shed for all members of Wesley to enjoy.

The men's club also supports wider community causes. Several members volunteer regularly to deliver bread from Ready Bake Foods to Carmichael Outreach.

Men of the congregation are invited to join any or all of the activities the men’s club is involved in. Watch the bulletin for updates or news regarding gatherings or events the men’s club is involved in.

If have any questions about the Wesley Men’s Club feel free to call me at 306-584-9722. We welcome your attendance at our next event.  Thank You.
