 JANUARY 20, 2018

We were warmly welcomed to Sunset U.C by Rev. Tricia Gerhard, minister at Sunset and Presbytery Chair. She led us in opening worship using an Epiphany theme. She did point out that she realized that Epiphany had, in fact, been two weeks prior. We are all encouraged to shine and received special  Star Words to guide us into the future.

Krystal Sheremeta, Conference President was welcomed to our meeting.

Following the usual meeting stuff of minutes and correspondence we got to work!

Donna Nelson has agreed to be Pastoral Relations Administrator after the resignation of Bev Bradshaw. Thanks were expressed to Bev for her many years of service to the Presbytery.

Remit #6 – That Wascana Presbytery agrees that there should be one new order of ministry encompassing the present categories of recognized designated lay ministers, diaconal ministers and ordained ministers, with ordination to the ministry of word, sacrament, education, service and pastoral care as the single rite of entry, and with provision for the continued identity of the diakonia within the ordained ministry.  This was passed by the Presbytery.

General Council Nominations: The Presbytery is permitted to nominate up to seven persons to be presented as Commissioners to SK Conference Nominations for further consideration. Of these seven, three to be order of ministry, three to be lay and one to be under 30 years of age.  We nominated Pam Thomas, Cindy Bourgeois and Tricia Gerhard, order of  ministry. They spoke to the Presbytery about their experience and why they would like to attend on our behalf. Two lay people spoke to us but have not yet submitted applications. The Executive of Wascana Presbytery was given the power to nominate

candidates on behalf of the Presbytery. The Conference Nominations Committee meets in March and are able to choose fifteen Commissioners to attend General Council 43 in July.

The rest of the day was spent looking at Presbytery and what will happen after December 30, 2018 when Wascana will cease to exist. This was prepared by the planning group of Pam Thomas, Darrell Reine and Linda Anderson.

Bill Doyle and Darrell Reine shared what has been communicated thus far for the transition from a four court system to the upcoming three court.

Table groups discussed the information received. Many questions remain unanswered!

Then the same groups shared what has been important to us and what we celebrate. This was facilitated by President Krystal Sheremeta.

In our table groups we shifted our focus from the past to the future.

Looking at the proposed new boundaries our region will be the Province of Saskatchewan. We don'[t know exactly how the funding will proceed but we do know that remaining conference  and  presbytery assets will be transferred to the region. Pastoral Charges will be assessed by the Denominational Council.

Presbytery thanked the folk of Sunset for the tasty muffins, cookies and soup served throughout the day.
