Wesley Men's Club News

posted Sep 21, 2015, 8:32 AM by Wesley United Church

The fall season will be here shortly.  That is not good news if you want more summer, but good news if you are looking forward to another Wesley Men’s Club season. Our first regular supper meeting/gathering is happening on Friday October 2nd in the kitchen lounge of the church.  Supper will be served around 6:15 followed by a short session of business. Our first speaker of the year will be Helen Grimm, who was a volunteer at the 2014 Winter Olympics held in Sochi, Russia.  This should be a very interesting presentation.

A little bit about the Wesley Men’s Club. There is no cost to become a member of the men’s club.  It is open to all men of Wesley and any friends they wish to bring.  We gather informally every first Friday evening of the month in the Wesley kitchen lounge for some fellowship and a delicious home cooked meal (at a bargain price of only $12) hosted by the house of the month.  After supper, a short period of time is devoted to any business items that need discussing.  The evening is normally capped off by a guest speaker followed by questions and discussion.  By 8:00 pm the evening has usually wrapped up.

A bit about the Wesley Men’s Club.  Aside from the regular meetings, the men’s club puts on the annual “world famous” Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. The Annual Christmas Party is always held on the first Friday of December. The Christmas Party is open to all members of the Wesley congregation and friends.  Over the years the men’s club has played a prominent role in helping organize Wesley’s Annual Spring Garage sale.  The Wesley Men’s Club does not operate to retain large sums of money. Monies raised through our events like the pancake supper and garage sale are donated back to the church to help pay for general operating expenses and to support the youth programming needs of the church. The men’s club has traditionally made a regular donation to Lumsden Beach Camp and supports other congregational causes and projects as warranted.  Last year the men’s club purchased six 5-foot tables for Wesley.

If you have any questions about the Wesley Men’s Club feel free to call me.  If you have never attended a meeting before we would love to see you on the 2nd of October.  Your attendance would be most welcome.

Thank You.
