Greetings from Kim Antosh
I
began my ministry work here at Wesley in January of 2004 after serving as a
volunteer and a lay minister in different congregations for years. I completed
the Lay Pastoral Ministry in Training program in June 2006 and was recognized
as a Lay Pastoral Minister by Saskatchewan Conference in June 2007.
I
understand ministry to be about bringing a faith perspective to our daily
lives, about encouraging others to work with me to explore their faith, seek
justice for the world and themselves, to offer our gifts and skills to the
church and to be open to experiencing God in our everyday lives. Together we
will work to bring about the kind of world that God created for us.
I
believe I bring to ministry a friendly outgoing approach to people, a passion
for exploring biblical texts in light of new learnings and a passion Christian
development of all age. I also bring a love for preaching and pastoral care, a
high degree of enthusiasm and energy, a keen sense of humour, ideas for worship
and growth in the congregation and a desire to see the church reach out into
the community.
In recent years my theology has been shaped by the work
of John Spong, Marcus Borg, Dom Crossan, Gretta Vosper other theologians on the
cutting edge. I am engaged in the search for new images of a non theistic God
and new language to communicate that. My Common Life Program enriches my life
and challenges me to continue to grow in faith and action. I have learned that
it is in the community of the church, both in the congregation and in the wider
courts, where our experience of God comes most alive. I experience Wesley as a
community where many do experience God in our worship and work as a community
of faith.
Beyond the congregation of Wesley I serve the wider
church in a variety of ways. I am past chair of Wascana Presbytery and Vice
Convenor of the Sask. Conference Division of Finance and Administration. I am
currently part of the leadership team for the two year program at Calling Lakes
Centre that prepares people to be licensed as Lay
Worship Leaders.
It
is an honour and a privilege to be in ministry with the faithful people of Wesley United
Church.
Kim
